Main Body
25.02.42 Main Body sorties from Staring Bay to support invasion of Java by cruising south of Java, in the Indian Ocean. Now again with only the 2nd Division/3rd Squadron (BB Haruna, Kongo)
01.03.42 Some elements of the Main Body enroute to Christmas Island (Banda Sea, 190 miles S of Java) via the Ombai Strait off Timor:
    — 2nd Division/3rd Squadron (BB Kongo, Haruna)
    — 17th Destroyer Division (DD Urakaze, Hamakaze, Isokaze, Tanikaze)
07.03.42 Some elements of Main Body bombardments of Christmas Island (190 miles south of Java):

the remaining elements Main Body arrive at Staring Bay:

10.–25.03.42 Main Body remains in Staring Bay after surrender of the Dutch East Indies. While on standby alert, the crews are allowed some rest and relaxation.
11.03.42       CA Takao and CA Maya depart Staring Bay for Yokosuka, Japan.
18.03.42 VAdm Kondo departs on his inspection cruise from Staring Bay, aboard CA Atago, escorted by the destroyers Arashi and Nowaki
(The battleships remain in Staring Bay.)
      CA Takao and CA Maya arrive in Japan. There until 22.05.42.
21.–22.03.2 VAdm Kondo’s inspection cruise at Tarakan and Balikpapan, Borneo.
23.–23.03.2 VAdm Kondo’s inspection cruise at Makassar, Celebes.
27.03.–02.04.42 VAdm Kondo’s inspection cruise at Singapore, Malaya.
Interdiction Unit
2nd Submarine Squadron From late February 1942 deployed from Staring Bay, Celebes, Netherlands East Indies), into the Indian Ocean south of Java. Mid-March 1942, moved to Penang, Sumatra, (Netherlands East Indies), although still operating within the Indian Ocean, but deploying near Ceylon, through April 1942.
4th Submarine Squadron Stationed at Camranh Bay since 07.02.42 patrolling in the Java Sea. Moved to Staring Bay (off Kendari, Celebes, Netherlands East Indies), late February 1942. The 4th Submarine Squadron was disbanded on 10.03.1942, the vessels reassigned to other commands, and without being sent on further patrols, the six 'I' subs were sent between 13. and 16.03.42 from Staring Bay to Kure, Japan.
The 18th Submarine Division with its three submarines was reassigned to the Kure Naval District as a training unit.
The 19th Submarine Division with its three submarines was reassigned to the 5th Submarine Squadron, Combined Fleet. The subs were refitting at Kure, Japan until 14.05.42.
The two 'RO' of the 21st Submarine Division had been reassigned to the 6th Submarine Squadron, Combined Fleet, and had departed Staring Bay on 22.03.42 enroute to their new station at Truk, Carolines.
