From late February 1942 deployed from Staring Bay, Celebes, Netherlands East Indies),
into the Indian Ocean south of Java.
Mid-March 1942, moved to Penang, Sumatra, (Netherlands East Indies),
although still operating within the Indian Ocean, but deploying near Ceylon, through April 1942.

| 4th Submarine Squadron |
Stationed at Camranh Bay since 07.02.42 patrolling in the Java Sea.
Moved to Staring Bay (off Kendari, Celebes, Netherlands East Indies), late February 1942.
The 4th Submarine Squadron was disbanded on 10.03.1942, the vessels reassigned to other commands,
and without being sent on further patrols, the six 'I' subs were sent between 13. and 16.03.42 from Staring Bay to Kure, Japan.
The 18th Submarine Division with its three submarines was reassigned to the Kure Naval District as a training unit.
The 19th Submarine Division with its three submarines was reassigned to the 5th Submarine Squadron, Combined Fleet.
The subs were refitting at Kure, Japan until 14.05.42.
The two 'RO' of the 21st Submarine Division had been reassigned to the 6th Submarine Squadron, Combined Fleet,
and had departed Staring Bay on 22.03.42 enroute to their new station at Truk, Carolines. |
