26.03.42 Carrier Strike Force departed from Staring Bay via Timor Sea into Indian Ocean.
31.03.–09.04.42 Operation C — Raid into the Indian Ocean
05.04.42 Carrier Strike Force aircraft attacked Colombo, Ceylon.
Sank the British CA Cornwall, CA Dorsetshire, DD Tenedos, CX Hector.
09.04.42 Carrier Strike Force aircraft attacked Trincomalee, Ceylon.
Sank the British CVL Hermes, corvette Hollyhock, AOT Athelstane, AOT British Sergeant, AP Sagaing, Australian DD Vampire, Norwegian AP Norviken.
10.04.42 Carrier Strike Force changed course around midnight to the NE, and gradually bore southwards again, crossing the Andaman Sea.
12.04.–13.04.42 Carrier Strike Force through the Strait of Malacca, passing Singapore at nightfall, and then entering into the South China Sea, bound for Japan.
14.04.42        5th Carrier Squadron (CV Shokaku & Zuikaku), escorted by DD Hagikaze and Maikaze, was detached from the Carrier Strike Force for refueling at Mako.
19.04.42        5th Carrier Squadron (CV Shokaku & Zuikaku), departed Mako for Truk, screened by 27th Destroyer Division (DD Ariake, Yugure, Shigure, Shiratsuyu)
23.04.42 Carrier Strike Force (less 5th Carrier Squadron) arrived at Hashirajima, Japan.
